New leadership

Under the new changes, Christoph Zammert, who heads support and services for Airbus Helicopters will lead the production programme, replacing Michael Menking, who was appointed as the head of special projects for the company’s commercial business.

Market headwinds

Airbus A320 family aircraft deliveries were significantly impacted by global supply chain disruptions.

Airbus delivered 127 aircraft in the first quarter of 2023, including 106 of its flagship A320neo-family aircraft, marking an 11% drop in deliveries compared to 142 deliveries in the same period in 2022.

The drop was primarily driven by A350 deliveries, which were five aircraft short of last year’s 16 aircraft.

While the recent restructuring is reportedly driven by the decline in delivery rates, Reuters reported that internal problems also included breakdowns at the company’s robotised assembly line in Hamburg, Germany.
