Etihad Airways Engineering (EAE) just won its first contract to service Lufthansa's long-haul aircraft.
The contracts cover heavy maintenance work including six-year checks, full cabin overhauls, and major structural modifications to be carried out on "several" A340-300s and A380-800s by the Abu Dhabi-based carrier's MRO arm, according to a statement released by EAE.
EAE recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Airbus to combine expertise and offer value-added MRO service solutions in Abu Dhabi to A380 operators from all over the world.
The contract also builds on Etihad's January announcement of a wide-ranging agreement with Lufthansa to explore cooperation in a number of service areas including aircraft maintenance.
"We are excited to now count Lufthansa as one of our customers, and this heavy maintenance contract reiterates Etihad Airways Engineering's firm commitment to be an A380 centre of excellence," says Abdul Khaliq Saeed, newly appointed CEO of EAE. "We continue to expand our capabilities on the latest platforms to offer industry leading aircraft maintenance and engineering solutions.”
