The global provider of air and travel services, dnata inaugurated on Monday its bespoke cargo centre at London Heathrow Airport (LHR), as part of the company’s ‘City East’ complex.

Enhanced capacity

The new facility aims to further increase the company’s capacity at LHR, and enhance its cargo handling capabilities to include a broad range of goods to meet the surging demand for reliable and safe air cargo services in the UK.

The latest expansion makes dnata City East the largest off-site cargo handling operation at the UK’s largest commercial aviation hub, moreover, the 10,500 sqm Phase II facility was designed to operate in conjunction with the existing 22,500 sqm Phase I facility inaugurated in September 2019.

Bespoke solutions

“We are excited to announce the completion of dnata City East, a truly world-class facility.  Our newest cargo complex offers bespoke solutions, industry-leading technology and enhanced cargo capacity supporting our customers in achieving sustainable growth at the UK’s busiest airport,” Managing Director of dnata UK, Alex Doisneau said, thanking Virgin Atlantic Cargo and Delta Cargo for their “support, loyalty and trust” in the company’s services.

With the new facility, the company will handle all airfreight operations of Virgin Atlantic Cargo and Delta Cargo at dnata City East. Exports will remain at the Phase I facility, meanwhile, the new facility will cater for all imports, offering the airlines increased handling capacity.

Doisneau further highlighted that dnata will “continue to go the extra mile to consistently provide the highest level of service and safety across our operations, every day.”

Expansion plans

dnata offers cargo services from eight facilities at LHR with a team of over 750 employees, offering cargo handling infrastructure and services for over 30 international airlines at one of the world’s leading cargo destinations. In 2021 the company handled more than 500,000 tonnes of cargo in London.

The company revealed plans to invest more than $217 million in one of the world’s largest and most advanced cargo facilities, dnata Cargo City Amsterdam, located at Schiphol Airport.
