Dubai Airports, the operator of Dubai International (DXB), has launched realtimeDXB, a cloud-powered platform aimed at monitoring airport operations in real-time.

Capable of visualising traffic flows, as well as compiling data generated by more than 50 operational systems, the platform will enable the airport operator to better manage day-to-day operations and deliver a more refined experience for passengers passing through the airport’s terminals.

Amongst its many features, the platform will provide operations teams access to airport data in real-time, which in turn keeps them up to date on current scenarios and informed on developing situations occurring at any point across the airport environment.

Damian Ellacott, VP of the Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC), at Dubai Airports, said: “As a system that makes key operational information visible in real-time to all service partners involved in the day to day running of the airport, realtimeDXB is a major step forward in our journey to develop common situational awareness.

“With the ability to measure operational efficiency, it provides us and our partners with enhanced decision-support tools to improve operations and manage disruption more effectively.

“This system will be instrumental in the implementation of new concepts of airport operations such as Airport Collaborative Decision Making (ACDM) and Total Airport Management.”

The initial phase of the implementation is centred on raising situation awareness of the airfield, focusing in particular on the movement of aircraft. This will entail the monitoring and visualisation of airfield activity, such as aircraft and vehicle movements, the status of aircraft stands, flight data information, as well as arrival, turnaround and departure processes.

The next step of the project will focus on improving passenger and baggage flows within the terminals.

Lloyd Gozzett, Vp of Customer Success at Dubai Airports, said: “DXB is the world’s busiest hub by international passenger volumes and we aspire to be also known as the best airport for customer service.

“One of the best ways to achieve that goal is to deliver a consistently smooth airport experience for the millions of customers that pass through our doors every day, and realtimeDXB helps us to do exactly that.

“In addition, by increasing the flow of traffic, the system essentially adds capacity to a hub that’s located in the middle of the city and does not have the luxury to keep expanding its physical infrastructure.”
