Breaking: Qatar shut out of Saudi, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt airspace

Qatar and its national carrier Qatar Airways will no longer be allowed to fly in and out of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, or Egypt as tension over Qatar’s Iran stance grows, according to a Bloomberg report.

Qatar’s Emir last month made statements in support of improving ties with Iran, which has increased agitation with Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Qatar has denied the statements saying they were the result of a cyber attack, a claim which hasn’t yet gained traction.

Qatar Airways currently operates flights to Dubai, as well as Ras al Khaimah as it aims to turn Doha into a hub airport. The move by its GCC neighbours might particularly affect operations into Saudi Arabia where it has been growing routes and frequencies over the past few years.
