Lufthansa pilots have voted to go on strike during the Easter holidays, the atwonline website reported on Friday.
The website quoted union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC), which represents about 5,400 Lufthansa pilots, as saying they would consider strike action if challenged by the German airline.
The union is pushing for pay increases and the re-implementation of a transition contract for pilots who retire before the legal retirement age of 65.
Lufthansa chairman and CEO Christoph Franz was previously quoted as saying that even the threat of a strike effects bookings for the airline.
Atwonline quoted a Lufthansa spokesperson: “We are confident that we will find a consensus and Lufthansa is working with speed to present a new solution. This could also include offering [a model] for early retirement for cockpit and cabin crews.”
According to the report, the last pilot strike action by Lufthansa pilots in 2010 caused the cancellation of hundreds of flights.
