Air Arabia expands network with new route to Basra, Iraq

The new service aims to bolster Air Arabia’s presence in Iraq, complementing the airline’s existing services to Baghdad, Erbil, and Najaf.

The UAE’s low-cost carrier (LCC), Air Arabia, announced on Thursday the launch of a new route connecting Sharjah to Basra in Iraq.

Starting on 3 June, the airline will operate three weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday connecting Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) with Basra International Airport (BSR), utilising its Airbus A320 aircraft fleet.

The new service aims to bolster Air Arabia’s presence in Iraq, complementing the airline’s existing services to Baghdad, Erbil, and Najaf.

Flight G9 833 is scheduled to depart SHJ at 02:00 PM local time, arriving in BSR at 02:50 PM local time. Meanwhile, the return flight, G9 834, will depart from BSR at 03:30 PM and land in SHJ at 06:20 PM local time.

“With the launch of our new route to Basra, Iraq, we continue to broaden our reach across the region, reaffirming our commitment to offering affordable and accessible travel options to our passengers,” Air Arabia Group CEO, Adel Al Ali said, noting that the new service reaffirms the airline’s commitment to facilitating seamless travel experiences for its customers to more destinations.

The carrier operates a modern fleet of of73  Airbus A320 and A321 neo-LR aircraft across a broad network of regional and international destinations from its seven hubs in the UAE, Egypt, Morocco, Armenia, and Pakistan.

Earlier this week, the airline inaugurated a new City Check-in facility in Dubai, enabling travellers to drop off their luggage and issue boarding passes up to 24 hours before their flights and up to eight hours before their scheduled departure time.
