As the east coast of the United States gets ready to be battered by Hurricane Sandy, Emirates and Etihad Airways have cancelled flights between the UAE and United States which were scheduled for October 29. Bad weather conditions, including winds of around 75mph, caused the airlines to take the decision.

Etihad cancelled flights EY101 from Abu Dhabi to New York and EY100 from New York to Abu Dhabi. Emirates grounded flights EK202 from New York’s JFK Airport to Dubai International Airport and EK201 from Dubai to New York. Emirates flight EK204 departing New York today has been brought forward by an hour to 2.20pm UTC (6:20pm Dubai time).

Both airlines say they will monitor the situation and Etihad expects operations to and from New York to return to normal tomorrow pending improved weather.
