Dubai International continues to report year on year increases in cargo and passenger throughput.
In August, the airport handled 163,427 tonnes of air freight, year on year growth of 2.9%.
Year to date cargo movement reached 1,198,546 tonnes by the end of August, an increase of 0.1 per cent.
In comparison, global volumes for international air freight are down 20% year to date, according to Airports Council International (ACI).
In terms of passengers, Dubai International saw a 10.7% year on year jump in August.
The year to date passenger traffic has now reached 26,878,331, an increase of 6.7% year on year.
Worldwide, the decline has been 7% for the year to date, according to ACI.
“Dubai International is the only airport among the top ten airports in terms international passenger traffic to still record positive growth,” said Paul Griffiths, CEO, Dubai Airports, which managers Dubai International and the under-construction Al Maktoum International.
“Aviation here has defied the global trend and this is testament to the attractiveness of Dubai not just as a transit hub but also as an international destination for both business and tourism.”
