Flydubai to hire 600 pilots in next five years

Low-cost carrier flydubai plans to hire 600 pilots by 2016 in a bid to keep pace with its growing fleet and route network, the airline said on Wednesday.

The state-owned carrier, which currently employs more than 200 pilots, placed an order for 50 Boeing 737-800s in 2008 with a total value of $4 billion. The last of these planes is due for delivery in 2016.

Ghaith al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said the carrier was “possibly the world’s fastest growing start-up airline ever”.

“We are recruiting pilots of all type ratings aggressively to ensure we will have the staff to meet our operational requirements,” he said in an e-mailed statement.

The low cost carrier flies from Dubai Terminal 2 to almost 40 destinations.
